Title: Need some help with Hexagon alignment
Post by: IVORM on January 04, 2021, 04:57:09 PM
Hello,

I need some help from you guys for aligning a Hexagon in a nice manner by using a macro.
Please see my screendump and example file. Inside the Hexagon there is also a Pentagon. I am not sure which one is better for tiling.
I hope there is someone who is willing to help me out.

Cheers.

Hi, I would recommend checking this topic (https://forum.itoosoft.com/railclone-pro-(*)/pattern/).
If You have any questions after, please ask.

Thank you Rokas, I will try it out right away!

Hi Rokas,

Unfortunately I can't get the second row to move on de x-axis.
Am I doing something wrong?

the same mentioned post has Pattern macro. You can use it or Your own math logic to translate every second row.

You can try these parameters. Hope this helps.
If you attached Your situation where You are stuck it would be easier to help.

That's a great start of the day...that did it trick!
Thks for your time and effort.

I would like to add this pattern on a wall (house) with different angles.
Do I have to make closed splines from all angles to attach it to the walls or can I use 1 surface?

First, closed splines.

Rokas,

The Closed splines work, but I can't get them to fill them completely.
I tried the expand option but that doesn't fill the gap.

Here you go Rokas.
Thks!

Thanks

You could increase expand value to bigger values and it should work.
However, with this simple pattern it is more efficient to create more optimized translation logic:

Hope this helps.

I really would like to see what you have done Rokas.
Can you please save it for 3dsmax 2020?

Hi,
he probably used Conditional Y Counter Multiple of 2 to get every second row. And with two Transforms node, he just shifts X position and bottom padding.
Also, you can attach everything to one spline.

Thks Dragan for helping me understand the Conditional node.
Do you know a solution for aligning the pattern on both corners?

Glad to help  ;)
Well, the corners are always a little bit tricky. With your pattern, I will probably prepare/remodel separate segments for the corners inputs but then the generator should be based on L1S nested with some A2S/L1S to fill up the default wall surface. Clipped A2S will be hard to track where to finish with the corner and where to finish with the start/end segment.

Hi Dragan,

Because I’m still a newbie I find it very helpful reading your solution. Is it also possible to keep both splines separate and adjust the height of one spline with a transform node so the pattern match up?

Yes, of course. You can export  X and Y translation parameters and play for each of the spline individually.

Thks Rokas! You and Dragan are a great help to me. My next question   About facade cladding is on another thread (keeping the forum clean) ;)
