Nested segments with Vray Proxies
« on: October 26, 2016, 10:23:13 PM »
Hello,

I am running into an issue where I am using Vray proxies as segments in a RailClone that gets nested inside another RailClone object similar to the stacked books in this tutorial:

https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/tutorial_bookshelf_books.php?back=page%3D2%26tag%3Drc

The proxies render properly in the first RailClone, but get degraded to the Vray proxy faces preview in the final RailClone and the material does not get applied.

Is there a way to have the Vray proxy properly propogate through the nested RailClone to the final RailClone, or do I need to set the Vray proxy to show whole mesh?

Is this something that can be fixed, or is it a limit of RailClone?

Hi, Proxies cannot be nested because RailClone needs to convert them to a standard mesh for certain operations. (which is not possible).

As general rule, we suggest not to use proxies with RailClone. They are supported for compatibility, but there is not benefit using them.
Standard geometry is instanced in same way that proxies, and supports all features.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll use the original meshes.
