Railclone Clipping Area problem with distributed rendering
« on: September 13, 2018, 05:43:42 PM »
Hi,

I have a very simple Railclone object that uses a clipping area to cut out windows.
The object looks and renders fine on my workstation. But when rendered on the network, some of the holes in the Clipping Area are ignored.
See attached image to see what's happening.

Workstation and slaves all running WIndows 10 + 3ds max 2016 + RC 3.2

Dees it happen for all the slaves? or just one of them? I guess some of Your slaves do not have the same version as Your workstation.

Please try to reinstall plugin for misbehaving slaves.
Be sure Max and VRay Spawner (if using VRay) are stopped.

Please follow distributed rendering trouble-shooting guide. It is for ForestPack but concept is the same with RailClone.

Hope that helps.

Thank you Rokas.

So I deleted Railclone dll's and dlo's from the nodes and reinstalled RC 3.2
I made a simple version of the scene with only the railclone object and launched test renders twice on each node separately.
As seen on the attached image they all fail on one or two openings. But it is also random : when I redo the render on the same node the result is not always the same : sometimes all openings will render fine, sometimes a different one will be omitted...

I attached the simplified scene if this helps.

Hi, Thanks for scene file.

I ran a test with 1 render node and animation of 25 frames. Also same happens without a render nodes at all- on just one workstation.
0 frame rendered correctly, all other has missing one window.

Thanks for reporting. We will analyse it further.

Any progress with this? I have the exact same problem. Clipping Area refuses to do its job.

Hi we tried to debug the issue and found that this problem seems to be caused by the Max boolean function, that we use internally to clip the segments. Unfortunately it doesn't always work as intended.
Unfortunately we can't fix this.

As a safety precaution You can convert geometry to Editable Poly, or if geometry is quite heavy- use RailClone tools to lock Your style from modifications in rendertime.
