Title: Noob Question - Basic Trussing Setup
Post by: UF1418 on April 25, 2017, 03:13:19 AM
Hello,
Do a lot of trussing, bicycle rail, etc....   Hard objects that don't bend or flex.  Having trouble doing basic things.  Seems Railclone works better with objects that can be stretched.  Also seems it's set up for corner/start/end objects to be bigger so that the intermediary model can just run into the corner/start/end and you can't see it because it's covered by bigger model.

Could use some help with basic trussing setup.  Have 1 foot ends, 10 foot span (1.jpg).  Plugged in 1 foot ends as Start/Corner/Evenly/End.  Set Evenly spacing to 11'=132".  (2.jpg)  Easy and intuitive so far.

I turned off Justify, so the spacing will be correct on each side except for 1 area.  (3.jpg)

What's next should be simple, plug in the span as Default, it fills in the gaps perfectly, except one area on each side where it just clips.  For Default using Tile Mode so that there's no stretching.  I try this and there's 2 problems. (4.jpg)
1= The Default model goes too far and into the corner.  Happens on all 4 corners.
2= Default model starts halfway on only one corner.

Have played with pivot points and padding, can't get it right.
Any solutions?  Seems this should be simple.

Thanks - Chris

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us. You should be able to resolve that issue by changing Bevel Mode to None. That will stop the default sections from extending into the corners and will restart the truss sections after each corner

Attached is a simplified demo file.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.

Many Thanks,

Paul

Paul,
You helped me out with a Trussing setup the other day, was wondering if you could help with a similar issue.
Trying to get a setup for glass railing, modeled a corner and got it to work by changing X.Y alignment to pivot.  It's also rotated 90 degrees on Z axis to stand it up.  (pic 1)
Now just trying to put in straight glass model as Default to fill in.  But once again it goes into the corner model (Darker shading).  Have tried playing around with corner settings but to no avail.  (pic 2)

Thanks - Chris

Hi,

If you are using pivot alignment for a corner you will probably need to adjust the Corner segment's Right padding value in order to get adjacent segments to align correctly.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.

Many Thanks,

Paul

That fixed it!
Trying to understand why that is necessary, seems like the Default should automatically respect the boundary of the Corner model, but that works for now.  Eventually this will all make sense.
