Title: Offset Cladding
Post by: LJ3715 on February 25, 2018, 08:02:34 AM
Hi all,

Im having trouble offsetting my cladding on a wall to cap correctly on the edges.

I have used the cladding preset and adjusted the tiling to match (basic vertical cladding with a 5mm gap) however when I make the top spline it doesnt match the alignment, I have tried to use the transform and extend tools but this creates either gap on the end on a hole on the side (using a duplicated railclone for each axis) is there something simple Im missing here?

Hi, welcome to the forum.
To get better help faster, I would recommend attaching a max file with detailed problem description.

In Your case, i believe some tiles have to be bigger to get seams aligned. Style will need some adjustments.
Is this what You are after:

Thanks for feedback and the warm welcome  :). What do you mean by some tiles need to be bigger (currently these widths are what I require to match the cladding type and gap length)?

I have attached the max file in this link below

What you have produced is what I would like to do however the cladding is strictly vertical not square

It also appears to have the similar gap issue around this part of my other cladding (not capping the holes).

I cant solve this case using cladding macros, I will try some other technique when I have time.
Regarding second issue: capping- RailClone does not Cap holes. You can add 3ds max modifier "Cap holes" Or scatter plane object and add Shell modifier (sometimes this is better)
Cap holes:

vs plane and Shell:

thank you Rokas!  Shell worked well

Unfortunately I still cant offset, I think ill make the railclone from scratch next time working through the macros can be a little difficult at first. Thanks for your help!
