Array to follow Z deformation
« on: June 08, 2017, 10:38:49 PM »
Im needing to make slats in a curvy ceiling that I think RC would be great for.
See attached image:

I don't know how to make an array follow the the deformation that im needing it to though

Hi,

Please find attached a sample scene with possible style set-up (you can archive it even with the Linear 1S Generator. The Array 2S Generator is possible to use too - the Y Spline would define the "length" of used Segment. In case of the Linear 1S Generator, this can be driven by the Y Fixed Size parameter (easily exportable). Hope you'll find it helpful.

Best regards,

This is very helpful, thanks!

The reason i was trying to use an Array the first time is because i'm needing to have holes, or negative space where the slats dont go over for light fixtures.
I figured the Array would be good for that.

Here's a screenshot of the actual roof i'm trying to apply these slats to from a top view, so those waves aren't visible.

Knowing that and seeing your example file, is the best way to do this with RC to just cut those holes out manually after the main shape has been created?

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad to hear, that it helped. There's no need to cut these holes manually - the Clipping Area in the Exclude mode will do it automatically.

Best regards,

Oh man clipping area made it do exactly what I needed during a big time crunch. Never had the need to use that before this.
Been using RC for about 6 months and I still learn something new almost every time.

Love the tool!
