Railclone Master Styles File Size Query
« on: November 04, 2022, 04:44:39 PM »
Hey guys,

Sanity checking something, I have my master RC setup that within a scene I then copy around, splines and all and pick the master to be the master in the master style rollout. I then place and copy this new railclone as many times as I need where I need to have separate controls but all linked back to the same original master Railclone. However, file size can quickly add up with each new railclone object with heavier base geo. Is there any other way to optimise with RC short of making proxies for the source geo as I'm assuming each RC is keeping effectively a copy of the geo internally that is adding to the file size even though they're all referencing the same original master style.

Railclone 4.3.2 Max 2022

Cheers,
Matt

I supposed caching to an external file with RC 5 may be my solution, might need to force our upgrade sooner...

Hi,

Using the recently introduced Proxy Cache feature would be highly recommendable for these purposes. It's very efficient - it'll load and render much faster because RailClone doesn't need to perform so many calculations to rebuild them, which is especially useful for complex styles. In theory, there shouldn't be any significant difference between the Embedded / External mode though the Embedded might be a bit faster.

Best regards,
