Parquet floor tutorial and library preset
« on: May 22, 2016, 12:52:48 AM »
Hi!
Can someone give me some pointers on what things should I change in the editor so I can use the presets or the things explained in the tutorial in order to use it to cover a wall instead of a floor?

Thank you very much.

I'll add my file here, the problem I have is that the preset works perfect for floors, but when I try to apply it to a rectangle drawn in the front or right viewport, I get an error that says "No size or Spline on X".
I tried with the same segments and with rotated ones.
Any one knows what I'm doing wrong? I have a feeling that it's something pretty obvious, but I just can't figure it out.

Thanks!

Hi, the RC object is aligned correctly with the spline, but for some reason the checkbox "Extend X/Y Size to Areas" was off.

Once enabled, everything shows correctly.

Well, it was easy after all.
Thanks!

Now I'm getting a different problem, the pattern is not completed at the exterior borders, and I get some extra wrong placed segments on the interior borders.
I tried changing it from tile to adaptive but the problem persists.
Thanks!

Hi,

This problem would appear to be related to the spline. I was able to fix it by doing the following:

1 - Rotate the spline so that it's flat on the X/Y plane
2 - Reset the Spline's XForms
3 - Rotate it back into position.

If you find that the patterns is missing segments on the edge you can increase the Expand value. This will enlarge the size of the array inside the clipping area to remove gaps.

I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any further questions.

Many Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul, thanks for the answer.
I find that I usually have problems when I import the splines from Rhino as a dwg file. Do you know why this is?

It's hard to say really, importing from other applications can sometimes cause mismatches in axes and the transform matrix. I find it's safest to reset the XForms of anything coming in from another app, just to be safe..
