Gate + Post
« on: October 31, 2016, 10:35:21 AM »
So I have this gate with a post on one side.
I'm breaking my head on how to brake up the gate in segments and regenerate them with RC
so I can have the width of the gate determined by a spline.

Hi,

I would suggest you to check the "Parameterising Windows" tutorial, where the "Preparing Geometry" phase is explained in detail - in your case you don't need to slice it in a way as I would be used within the A2S Generator (as you're looking for driving only the width, the Linear 1S Generator will do the job) and few vertical slices should be enough - where just highlighted parts should be "scaled".

yeah that part I figured out, I have a gate start, default (adaptive) and end.
I'm just not sure how to have it repeat twice over the splinelength ...

Hi,

In many cases, the "middle" Segment can be placed in the centre just by using the Evenly input in the Count mode (set to 1). In your case, as the Start and End Segments aren't the same size, it might require some position adjustments of the Evenly one - for example in a way like in attached sample scene (to recalculate the position based the XSplineLength and subtracting exported X Sizes of used Segments).

Please feel free send us your scene to check it here. Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

didn't think about making the center piece (end/start of the 2 gate parts) ... My mind stuck on making the start-default-end tile twice ... this would work ... also, no arithmatich would be required. I'd use 2 linear with the same spline input to put the post on the outside of the spline and the gate itself devided evenly twice alone the splinelength ...

thanks for your help
