Title: Preserve original normals on sliced geometry
Post by: UB8512 on June 27, 2016, 12:22:41 PM
Hi,

it is possible to preserve original normals on segments which are sliced? I am using edit normals modifier on original piece of tile =>I set all normals to unified and then I select top polygon face normals and orient it straight top to produce correct flat reflections (not bended) ?

Hi,

Thanks for contacting us. I'd recommend trying to change the Operate On mode to Quads instead of tris. This may help to remedy this behavior.

If that doesn't help, if you could upload your sample scene that would be great. I'm having trouble reproducing the behavior here.

Many thanks!

Hi,

Thanks for the file. It seems that this is not a RailClone specific problem. I get the same results if I cut the tile using a Slice modifier. Instead of manipulating the Normals could you flatten the top by assigning the polygon a different smoothing group value? In my tests this seemed to work fine.

Many thanks!

 8) put that top polygon in diff. smoothing group works ;) , I was too aimed only at normals  :D. THX.
