Preset fencing UVW mapping error
« on: March 19, 2019, 10:38:18 AM »
Hi,

I have discovered a missing UVW mapping on a fencing preset. I thought this morning I was going mad, as I couldn't at first reproduce the error, but I have discovered that it is renderer specific:

  • Set the renderer to scanline (master units=meters, but I don't know if that is critical)
  • create a railclone object and a spline for it
  • select "Architecture: Exterior: Fences: Wood: Featherboard Panels - 1.8M"
  • with the resulting railclone selected, make material id 9 visible in the viewport and you should see that where the top rail is id 9, the UVW mapping is missing

I hope someone can reproduce this problem, and find a quick solution. I have not checked any other of the UVWs as this is the only one I need.

If this can be simply fixed, how quickly can it be done? I am in need of it for a job I am doing, which needs to finish this week.

Thanks in advance,

Bill

Please uncheck "Use Instancing engine"
That fixes the problem.

Hi Rokas,

I did that, but it made no difference! What exactly does that do? Should it make a difference in the viewport?

You did notice that this is specifically when using the scanline renderer and railclone set to "Automatic Selector" for materials? The probled does not occur with v-ray renderer selected.

I hope to hear back again soon.

yes. Works here with Instancing Unchecked.

Hi Rokas,

Thanks for your reply. That is interesting. Followed your process, and it didn't work... until I rendered, then it fixed it. I suppose that is because the setting is a rendering instance engine setting?

Considering I only want this for an export to FBX and ultimatly to lumion, it's a bit of an odd fix, but it does indeed work. Is there not a way to fix the underlying geometry and reissue the railclone library object with it fixed? I would have thought that would be a more robust fix.

Thanks for the tips.
