Title: Problem with 'Use Segment Material'
Post by: nubo on January 10, 2023, 02:41:15 PM
Hi,

I came across unexpected behavior of RC while using "Use Segment Material" option. When extracting embedded segment into the scene for the second time the material from the segment disappears.

Steps to recreate this potential bug:
1. Create any object and apply a material on it
2. Create RailClone and use this object as a segment
3. Turn "Use Segment Material" on
4. Delete the original object from the scene
5. In RC editor click on the segment and use "Extract Segment to a new object". The recreated object in the scene should have it's original material applied.
6. Repeat step 4 & 5. Now the recreated object's material is irreversibly gone.

Is there any way to avoid loosing materials while extracting objects multiple times?

RailClone 5.2.8
3DS Max 2021

Best regards,
Przemek

Hi,

I can confim the problem: when segments are extracted, the material reference (which is stored internally) is cleared.
This was introduced to avoid keeping a missing material, in case that user assigns a different material to the object.

But it has no much sense, and causes the problem you describe.
We'll fix that for next updates.
