Railclone 5.2.2 - Instant Crash
« on: May 23, 2022, 12:31:51 PM »
Hi guys,

I just  updated RC to version 5.2.2.
Installed Vray 5, latest version in the end  of previous week.
3ds max 2022, here.

Empty scene -> New RC object-> If click on Edit, 3ds max crashes

Can you reproduce this on your end and if the culprit is Vray once again?

Regards

Dragan

I had some strange crashes too, not related to any render engine.
I think I was just trying to connect empty nodes or Arithmetic operators.. need to investigate some more.

As soon as click on " Open Style Editor" - empty scene, empty RC - 3ds max crashes.

Unistalled RC, then installed RC 5.2.1b - no crash.

Installed RC 5.2.2 afterwards - crash.

The crash occurs also with Forest pack.
As soon as click on the Forest Pack lister, 3ds max crashes.
All scenes which have either RC or FP  crash on opening. The crash occurs with latest official  RC and FP versions . The betas are fine.

Thanks for the minidump. I see there are mixed files from different FP/RC versions.
Please, do this:

- Close Max
- Check if these files are in the Max root folder, and delete them: RCEdit.dll, RailCloneVRay50.dll, ForestQt.dll, ForestQtCatalog.dll, ForestVRay50.dll.
- Same for Qt5Core_Itoo.dll, Qt5Gui_Itoo.dll, Qt5Network_Itoo.dll, Qt5Solutions_MFCMigrationFramework-Itoo, Qt5Svg_Itoo.dll, Qt5Widgets_Itoo.dll, Qt5Xml_Itoo.dll and the Qt5Itoo folder.
- Reinstall RC and FP.
- Check if those files were copied again (it should not).

FP and RC installation now is done in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins. It must not be any file in the Max root or "plugin" folder.

Thank You!

The suggested solution help!
Indeed, in the root 3ds max folder there were many RC/FP/Itoo files.

Is this a specific procedure one has to do, as do not recall there was need to delete anything from 3ds max folder?

I'm glad it worked.

No, this should not happen. Theorically those files must be removed by the installer program (well, really by the uninstaller of previous version, which is called automatically).
Probably we'll improve the setup program in next updates, to force a removal of the old files.

In any case, once deleted the files manually, next installations should work without problems.

I'm still running Max 2020 for a few older, on-going projects.  I've been running FPP 7.12 and RC 4.32 with the intention to update with a maintenance purchase in the next year.  Today, however, I updated me vray 2020 to v-60100 and I'm now getting the "Forest pack in not compliant" msg.  Will this fix above work to remedy my problem or am I going to have to update my FPP and RC now?

No, that is a different issue. For Max 2020, FP and RC are installed yet in the Max root and "plugins" folders.
If you get a V-Ray compatibility message, it's necessary to update the plugins to a more recent version, which supports V-Ray 6.
