I get this error from time to time:

After restarting Max- it always loads fine- just first launch sometimes fails.. is it my firewall or what?

It's a network issue, but i guess is not the firewall. Usually a firewall blocks the traffic all time, not randomly.
Please, try specifying the server IP address using the "Change license mode" tool, instead the automatic mode. That should help with this problem.

This still happens.
I noticed it is more likely to heppen when 2 instances of 3ds max are running.
I have network license and server is running on same machine..
edit:
it happens only after some time i have max open(mostly often 2 instances have not noticed that with only one max open- will try to keep that in mind for future) and did not use RC that time,- and suddenly when I open it- it presents me an errror...

nah, it happens with only one max too...

Please, enable the debug (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=1465.0) mode and send us the log. Hopefully it may give us some clue.

how to disable debug level? do You have registry patch for that?

I've modified the FAQ post (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=1465.0), including .reg files to disable it.

How many machines are you running with 3dsmax ? There is some render node that could grab the licenses ?
This error usually is produced by loss of network connectivity or others machines that are exhausting the available licenses. If you could send us the license logs to helpdesk@itoosoft.com we will check it for errors.
