Title: Railclone 'double' transform when moving RC and clippingsource together
Post by: eqko on January 25, 2023, 05:56:10 PM
So I'm not sure what changed, but for some reason it came to my attention that whenever we move an xref that has a Railclone with clippingarea the Railclone gets a double transform or something, moves out of the clipping area and gets broken.

The basic setup we use has not changed since a long time.
We save select a building model to a maxfile, attach that to a scene using xRef scenes and bind it to a dummy.
We then use that dummy to move the building to it's place in the environment.

This wasn't an issue before though.
Attached is a simple example scene with just a simple 'similar' setup.
Move the dummy and see the Railclone move faster than the clipping area.

Any ideas what changed?
Could it be something between RC 5.2.7 (current) and 5.0.6 (previous)
I couldn't imagine, since we moved to 5.2.7 somewhere in november already.

Any ideas in general ? (other than setting the RC to 'Free Object')

Hi,

As mentioned in this tightly related thread (https://forum.itoosoft.com/railclone-pro-(*)/as2-auto-align-issues/): “Well, to maintain the optimal performance, the "automatic rebuilding" of the RC object is triggered just on some 3ds max events when using the Extend X/Y Size to Area mode. Using the Display/Build > Build button should do the trick. Optionally, you can disable&enable the RC object by using Maxscript in the following way to “refresh” it:

$.disabled = on;
$.disabled = off;

We'll check what can be done in future versions."

Best regards,

Hi Michal,

the problem is that I can neither press the build button nor run the script since the model with the railclone is actualy an xRef'd scene.
I have no access to the actual RailClone object because of that.

Hi,

I see – we’ll check what can be done to bypass this limitation. Meanwhile, using the Update File > Update Now within the XRef Scenes window should help. Unfortunately, there are several restrictions to any object referenced within XRef Scene(s).
