Title: RailClone | Open Corners
Post by: ShaneMcG on January 20, 2021, 12:29:14 PM
Hi there,

I'm fairly new to RC and FP, so that is probably an easy topic, but I still can't figure it out and a google search didn't help either.

So: I am making a simple curb, following a spline, having some 90° corners. The setup is more than simple: https://prnt.sc/xa90ok (https://prnt.sc/xa90ok). It works pretty good, only issue I have so far is that the corners are open (https://prnt.sc/xa96q7 (https://prnt.sc/xa96q7)), eben though I actually imagined the geometry to be bend or at least welded. How can I do that? Also, is there a way to make the curb (https://prnt.sc/xa9i8u (https://prnt.sc/xa9i8u)) not follow the center of the spline (dark red - https://prnt.sc/xa9evh (https://prnt.sc/xa9evh)), but to be aligned on one of its sides?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi. It's always better if You attach a maxfile so we can see what You are doing, and what needs to be changed for Your desired result.

First things first.
To enable vertex welding, You need to disable "Use Instancing Engine" and "Quick Mesh" mode.

Anyway result it not that good. We will use something else.

Corners seems to work well, when connected to Corner input, with x alignment set to center:

I have also modified these generators options:

You can change curb alignment by using segments Alignment options:

We acknowledge that RC comes with a much steeper learning curve than Forest Pack. In an effort to help users get acquainted with RailClone, we have an ongoing series of tutorials  (https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials?tag=railclone&page=1)you may find helpful, and detailed documentation (https://docs.itoosoft.com/railclone).
I would recommend you to check our RailClone "Getting Started with RailClone (https://docs.itoosoft.com/railclone/getting-started-with-railclone)" followed by our "Next Steps with RailClone (https://docs.itoosoft.com/railclone/next-steps-with-railclone)" guides too.

Feel free to visit our forums and see questions and examples posted here.
And last but not least if You have trouble creating styles- please attach Your starting file(save with the lowest max version You so more people can open Your file and offer their suggestions), reference what You are building and we will try to help You.

Max file attached for Your reference. Hope this helped.

Regards

Thank you very-very much!

I will study your input exactly to better understand the whole process behind it. And I'll make sure to go through all the tutorials.

Thanks again!
