railclone pavement - basic question of workflow
« on: March 11, 2021, 06:01:54 PM »
hello,

I'm having hard time figuring proper workflow for this. Looking at attached screenshot you can see basic road, pavement setup. In red circle there are problematic areas which one I am trying to populate with basic pavement. How do you properly do this? When pavement is going along the spline it is better but not for this area. Should I create pavement that works with "area" spline or geo? if so how to control direction of paving? Or maybe my mistake is that I am trying to do big chunk of area with one railclone object but should make this with separate generators ?

<edit>

please let me elaborate. As You can see on screenshot this is a basic setup, pavement, road and curb. Road is made (1s linear generator), pavement is made (array 2s generator) and curb is standard railclone library. Road is little problematic as You can see with little dark areas where it intersect and I at this moment don't know how to get rid of this, maybe road with array generator would be better? Pavement right now is facing one direction, after some distance probably another direction would be preffered.
And now again my question is linear for road and array for pavement is proper? Is it the best way with bigger terains?

Hi lukasso !

Seems good to me. How do You want to improve it ?

When pavement is going along the spline it is better but not for this area. Should I create pavement that works with "area" spline or geo? if so how to control direction of paving? Or maybe my mistake is that I am trying to do big chunk of area with one railclone object but should make this with separate generators ?
When using clipping spline in RC You can adjust alignment to Spline edges by using Auto Align option:

After You set it. It is only a matter of setting splines "First Vertex":

<edit>
please let me elaborate. As You can see on screenshot this is a basic setup, pavement, road and curb. Road is made (1s linear generator), pavement is made (array 2s generator) and curb is standard railclone library. Overlapping faces will give all renderers a trouble. Try adjusting one of the roads z position, oven 0.1mm can help in such cases.

And now again my question is linear for road and array for pavement is proper? Is it the best way with bigger terains?
With RC most of the styles can be made with variety techniques and the best technique is the one that makes the job for You.
Feel free to experiment and find what works best for You.

In case You want a deeper RailClone understanding  I would recommend You follow our ongoing series of tutorials. You may also find helpful our detailed documentation.
I would highly recommend you to check our RailClone "Getting Started with RailClone" followed by our "Next Steps with RailClone" guides too.

Thank You for help as always.
omg raising 0,1cm one vertex from road did the trick....I would never thought of that.
But with the case of Auto Align and First Vertex I was curious if it can be done on large elements to have different direction, so in that case I think it's one direction for railclone element.

And other question concerning the case...is it possible to create one railclone object for clipping area that it will be including road, pavement and curb ?

Linear Arrays are for that.

I think so. You just need multiple generators inside one RC object.

So I started to make this combo pavement+sidewalk+curb.
Could You please look is this is the right way? I've copied curb from library, created simple road (so far it is at whole clipping plane since don't know how to control it but its a little problem since paving and curbs will cover it). Been trying now how to set paving on both sides but it's rather problematic for me in this controlled case...curb is also every around and I would prefer for it to be only inside. Still don't know is this is the right way because I was trying For No Slice method...

You should create few separate closed splines- one for road, one for pavement like this:
Red for pavement and green for road(if i understood correctly), i just lifted them up so You can better see them:

and You can create additional open splines for the curbs where pavement meets road.

ah ok I see...so if this the way I will stay with separate railclone objects it's almost the same amount of job. Thank You :)

You can still make it one RC object if You want. just multiple generators.
With RC it is easier if You split what You want to do into more pieces which are eaiser to do, rather than creating one Generator for everything,

so technically if I create array generator for pavement there will be no option to create lower bricks at places with spline ID? this is only for linear generator?

"so technically if I create array generator for pavement "
ok...

"there will be no option to "
what option, where ?

"create lower bricks at places with spline ID? "
Yes You can do that with new generator.

"this is only for linear generator?"
What is for linear generator

Sorry, I am not sure I understand.

Look please into attached file, there you will see object railclone004 it's a pavement from library. Where do I need i can set spilne material id to 2 and there will be different geometry. Railclone003 is array on rectangle, there I cannot use this metod to have places with different geo. Am I right or again do not know something?

Hi
It seems You made the style to be dependent on Material ID 1 or 2.

yes, and is it possible for this style to be just partly (for example on one side)? or again need to be done by different spline and railclone object?

Can be same spline, same style, just different generator (linear).
