Title: Railing problem
Post by: JQ4668 on January 05, 2016, 12:57:39 PM
Hi

I can not get railclone to distribute my balustrades evenly. It is only in the curves I have this issue.

I have used the same spline - which is in the middle - for both sides of the railing.

Do you know a solution to this problem?

Thanks

Jakob

Hi Jakob,

Thanks for getting in touch. Without seeing the scene it's a little tricky to predict exactly what the problem is but it could be an issue with the base spline. Make sure all the vertices are of set to the the type Bezier, or Smooth otherwise you may find that the style is trying to add corners in the middle of a stretch of continuous path. You could also try adding a Normalise Spline modifier to the base spline.

To smooth the spline, increase RailClone's Style > Curve Steps value. You may find that helps.

If you can attach a stripped version of the scene I'd be happy to take a closer look at it for you.

Many thanks!

Hi Paul,

Thanks for a quick reply!

Increasing the curve steeps seems to do the trick!

Unfortunately I still have another problem. When going from a straight line to a curve the railing somehow messes up. Any suggestion? I have attached a file for you to look at.

Hi Jakob,

Thanks for the file. In this case I recommend disabling Interpolation > Optimize for the spline. It seems to improve deformation in this case.

Many thanks!

Hi again Paul,

Yes, it does improve deformations in most cases but not all as you can se on the attached image.
