railing with variable panels
« on: November 07, 2019, 01:01:48 AM »
After convincing work to purchase RailClone.......I'm stepping back into it after a several year absence.  :)
Of course I'm in deadline mode and I'm trying to figure things out watching tutorials, etc.  I'm building a simple railing with an 18" base wall and on top of it are panels that need to vary in length.

this image explains it (i think)

this is my current style editor view

I have attached the max file with my current setup as well.  Any suggested tutorials, forum posts, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks!

Sean

Hi

Your dropbox files are not visible, and I could not understand what You want from just the max file.
Please attach Your explanation images or use some other image hosting site such as imgur. Thanks

Hi
I have attached modified style. Hope this will be helpful. I have not changed anything important just few tweaks.
RailClone "likes" to distribute segments of exual Size (in X direction ) with adaptive mode.
But this time we have to use Tile mode and fix final segment. We have macro for that.

Let us know if You need something differently from what it is right now.

wonderful! thanks so much. On the other end I started playing around with adding a blank segment to have gaps at corners like in your tutorial https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/the-principles-of-railclone

me again.....kind of the same situation. I have vertical mullions in my current RailClone setup that are evenly spaced. I would like them to have some random variability.

Hi.
Try this (there are some parameters).
One RC is done by Paddings and the other one is done by Compose empty segment and vertical mullion.

Best Regards

version "C" seems to work better. I only played around with the parameters a bit. When I changed things too much in the "B" version mullions would pop off the ends. I think....over time I can figure out what you did and carry on. Is there any tutorial or information in particular I should look too? Vague question I know.

I see equations, exported parameters, transform & compose operators  :)

Thanks again!

Simple.
1. Use Default instead Evenly.
2. Make Compose segment out of the mullion+empty segment (in RC4 you can even leave transform node empty).
3. Set random size for the Empty Segment/Transform Node with Random parameter. Set min/max size with exported parameters. The important part is to set Random Mode to Segment so each segment will have a different size.
4. For Corners/Start/End use similar Compose method, just pay attention to the order: Empty+Mullion, Mulion+Empty, Empty+mullion+empty...etc and Empty/Transform Segment have Fixed side controlled by an Exported parameter.
That is it.

thanks for your last response!....and now more questions.....

I want to have parts of this wall to be double height. Should I switch to an array 2s generator?

I hacked it by copying the style and by using the material ID option under limits tab of the generators. My first pass works but the corners are not resolving correctly.

thanks! A step in the right direction but it's only working on one side so far.
