Railings...
« on: November 26, 2015, 11:03:23 AM »
Hey guys,

I was just thinking that some of the railings that come with railclone don't really look a lot like the ones that we specify in most of our buildings. I was considering building a set highly detailed railings for everyone to use, or at least a kit of parts. I could use some help putting this "kit" together to create some really realistic railings that (in most scenarios) should conform to building regulations and look very realistic. Modelling and shaders are my stronger points, but railclone I still struggle with things other than the basics (especially when you get into using expressions).

Would anybody be interested in helping and getting a decent preset (or couple of presets) together?

Hi Macker,

Thanks for starting this initiative. Our priority is making sure that RailClone meets as many of our user's needs as possible so we'd be very interested to know the types of Railings you regularly specify and you'd find useful included in our bundled libraries.  If you have some references you can send us we can look at creating and including them in our main package.

If anyone else has railings or other libraries they'd like to see please also feel free to let us know.

Many thanks!

Paul

These are more the kinds of things we use on projects:

https://www.stainlesshandrailsystems.co.uk/glass-balustrade-systems/

http://purevista.co.uk/

Loads of individual components/measurements here: https://www.s3i.co.uk/glass-balustrade.php

As for meeting building regulations, at its most basic the handrail on a landing needs to be 1,100mm high, and a minimum of 900mm high on a flight of stairs, but not higher than 1,000mm.

This is a great idea.

I ended up making my own railings because those in the libreries doens't fit our needs (like this one http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=3017.msg11609)

I compiled a collection of technichal drawings (zip below) of a Belgian brand http://www.mavaro.be/garde-corps-de-mavaro.html

They're simple & economical, therefore the builders like them a lot and put them in all their projects ;)

Brilliant! Thanks for all the info - it's really helpful. There are a few similar styles in the Interior > Railings section but we'll look at adding these to the defaults, preferable with adjustable height so that you can customise them further.

Many thanks!
