Title: Ram usage: RC vs FPP
Post by: Michael Betke on April 11, 2015, 02:14:16 PM
I built a simple line of trees like on the screenshot, using Point Cloud Display with RailClone (latest release) and was surpised my system ran out out RAM.
I then rebuilt the same line of trees using FPP and did the spacing with a full distribution map, and collision enabled to get a evenly distance between the bushes. It almost didn't raise any usage of RAM and all is fine.

Is this a common behavior and models are handled differently in RC and FPP?
I use OctaneRender.

That behaviour is normal because Octane is supported as instancing engine in Forest, but not in RailClone. You can see the list of supported engines here (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/RAILCLONE/Rendering+Best+Practices).

In this case you would use RailClone Tools (http://docs.itoosoft.com/display/RAILCLONE/RailClone+Tools) to generate the instances and get a similar render efficiency. Also to to ensure that all segments are instanced, disable Bend and Slice in the Segment's properties.
