Railclone surface question
« on: September 02, 2015, 08:29:59 AM »
I am using railclone as my pavement generetor and I came across this annoying thing.

Also see file attached with two options for surfaces (surface 1 is in the picture above. surface 2 is what I had to use)

When I create the surface I use a single spline to determine the contour and a surface object.

It is hard to explain, but I have to create two surfaces every time, one for railclone and the other for my other stuff, and I really want to use my original one for railclone too.

Is there a reason why the border behaves like this?

Hi,

I'm afraid this is a known limitation that we are working on fixing.  It is explained by RailClone's internal workflow:

1) First it creates an array extended to the limits of the clipping area.
2) Segments are conformed to the surface. Artifacts on edges are caused by segments which doesn't fit completely in the surface.

3) In the last stage, segments are sliced by the clipping area.

I'm afraid at the moment, the only workaround is to use surfaces that are slightly larger than the clipping spline. I personally find the Extend Borders script by Racoon artworks helpful to increase the size of my surfaces.

Many thanks,

Paul

I tried Extend Borders and its a huge time saver for this task.
Thank you for your suggestion, and I hope this will be sorted out one day. :D
