Title: Randomize the width with Roof Macro
Post by: KarenH on June 20, 2019, 11:32:28 AM
Hello everyone,

I would like some help with the building of my roof.
I used the Roof Macro to create the tiles on my defined spline.

I now want to randomize the width of the tiles.
Every random translation and rotation works fine but when I change the value of the X scale, it doesn't work.
I even tried adding a Transform node before my segment coupled with a X Fixed Sized parameter.

I feel like I'm missing something !

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Can You show us the reference roof You are trying to create?

I started from the Pantile preset and picked my own tile.
Since I don't want it to be perfect, I try to add some randomization to break the tiling.
That's when I realized I couldn't change the X Scale in Transform.

After many manipulations, I got it work like this (see attachment files).
Is there a simplest way to adjust the width of the tiles ?

I am not sure what You call as "width"
Maybe it would be enough to just translate tiles randomly to break neat repetition:

As it would be a roof for a medieval scene, I wanted to add more chaos than just the translation.

By width I mean this value :

that I thought I could adjust with the X value in Scale :

OK that is what i would call width too, but since You mentioned Pantile Preset I thought that can't be right as that pattern has very distinct vertical placement and can't be varied.
Anyway, if You are using more like slates geometry then You can use Fixed Size Override:

Oh okay, so the preset is the reason why it can't be varied !

Thanks for your gif, I'm going to test it in my roof  :)
