Title: Randomize Y-Size of Array 2S
Post by: HP3623 on August 16, 2016, 12:08:03 PM
Hello,

I would like to randomize the y-size of some 2s arrays. I've tried using the random parameter node, but it doesn't matter which "generate on" or values I use, there is no randomization. I got one big spline with different segments placed on different positions.

Hi,

I'm afraid the size of the A2S array cannot be randomised on a per spline basis (for a single RailClone object). Actually also the same row heights are maintained across different splines sections in the same RailClone object too. The best solution therefore is to break apart your spline and create several RC objects. I know this isn't ideal but RailClone Lister should help and you can use the Copy and Paste tools to quickly populate any changes across all the RC objects in the scene.

Depending on what you are trying to achieve there may be other workarounds (as seen, for example, in the blinds tutorial (http://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/tutorial_random_blinds.php?back=page%3D1)), if you have more information or a sample scene file I'll happily take a closer look.

Many thanks,

Paul

Hmm, ok good to know.

Yeah blinds tutorial is pretty much what I would like to do. Will have a deeper look at it.

is this something that we're able to do now ?

I'm trying to build a railclone for window dressing where I want random blind heights using a Array 2S with an x spline that has several segments.
It would totally be cool if I could randomize y-size per segment ...

I'm trying to build a city with that approach. That would be really cool to have an Y Size by spline segment :)
