Title: RC 2.6 Bug - Spline with Inline Vertices
Post by: JK3990 on April 13, 2016, 03:07:41 PM
Greetings,

I'm running into an issue with a very simple RC object (all settings are default):

Here it is sweeping along a spline with one corner, as expected:

HOWEVER, if I divide one of those splines, adding several vertices without affecting it's overall vector, weird stuff happens:

If I move one of the vertices just a tiny bit, so its angle does not equal exactly 180 degrees, the behavior returns to what is expected up to that vertex.  Any clue what's going on?  I'm attaching the scene as well, MAX 2016, vray 3.3, RC 2.6.

Thank you.

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this issue, I apologise for any inconvenience this is causing. I can reproduce the problem here and I've passed it onto our development team, hopefully it can be resolved quickly.

In the meantime you can get around this problem by making sure that the vertices along the path's length aren't seen by RailClone as a corner. To do this.

1.    Set the Rules > Corner Vertex Type to Corner.
2.    Changed all of the Vertices on the Base Spline to Corner-Beziers. Changed only vertices on a hard corner to the type Corner.

I hope that helps until we can fix the problem.

Many thanks,

Paul

Thanks for your quick reply, Paul!  I'll give your workaround a try.  I also found that if I move every other vertex just a tiny bit, the issue is resolved since none of the angles are exactly 180 anymore.  Although then the segments aren't perfectly planar at that point,  in most cases it's not an issue for me.

I've notice the same bug here...
try to work in different sort of vertices, but it don't work... I hope you can quickly work on it, because i've to reinstall the old one and wait for the new one...
I'm sure a hotfixe will be available soon as always!

Cheers Carlos and thanks for all the new cool things we have all around...

Still don't work with "scale" RC i've to put it in "adaptative"mode to have a visibility.

If i let it to "scale" mode it won't work.

The definitive test is about a segment on my spline, that i "divide" to have the center.
Railclone let a free space beetween the (new)second vertex and the last third one...

I've done some test, it seems that's the symetric bevel mode that's cause the problem, with any other mode it work...
BUT!
If i want to play again with symmetric, i've to put the filet radius to a vlaue like 0.02, and it work again.

Hope it help!

Hi,

Thanks for reporting this, you're right it still doesn't work correctly with Scale and Symmetrical corners. We'll try to fix this and release a new patch soon. Apologies for the inconvenience,

Many thanks,

Paul

I've uploaded an updated patch here (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=3637.msg14222#msg14222). It fixes the problem with Scale mode.
