RC object jumping from original pivot
« on: November 23, 2017, 10:58:20 AM »
Hi guys,

I have had this issue before and really not sure why it's happening. I am busy following Paul's tutorial on this thread: https://forum.itoosoft.com/railclone-pro-(*)/products-on-a-shelf/, in order to populate some pharmacy shelves with products. I'm right at the start and am creating the individual rows (in his case from numbers 1 to 9) that will be nested in the master shelf RC object.

I have set up the pivots of my objects just as he has with his numbers. I create the RC object in the top view (RC x & y axes point in same directions as source geometry axes). I follow everything to the tee - have checked all his settings to make sure I am getting it right.

Everything looks great...EXCEPT that when I adjust my exported X Size parameters to reveal the geometry the RC object itself jumps way up to the top of my viewport, whilst it's pivot stays where I have created it. I have attached a screengrab to explain.

I even recreated it (several times), and plugged in simple box and teapot geometry to test. Same issue with it jumping each time.

I have had this in another project before, but trying to create a wall. I tried adjusting the pivot of the RC to centre it to the object (which it does fine at first), but the slightest adjustment you make to any parameter and it jumps all over again.

I have the need to use RC often in my retail projects for this very purpose, and really want to nail the workflow to speed things up in future projects. So appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

Hope I am making myself clear. Let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks a mil,
Terri

Thanks

Hi Terri,

I would suggest you enable the Style > Free Object option. When enabled, RailClone ignores the spline's position but is still deformed by its shape. This mode allows you to move the RailClone geometry freely in the scene, or to create instanced objects without needing to clone and relocate multiple copies of the base spline. Hope that helps.

Best regards,

Worked like a charm.
Thanks!
