RC4 Compose: No Bend & Grouping Objects
« on: November 01, 2019, 02:47:01 PM »
Is it possible to improve the way compose works when you disable bend on a segment. In some cases I just want the object placed and aligned rather than have it conform to the curve.

See the examples beneath.

With bend enabled the posts are in the correct positions but on tight corners they get deformed quite a lot.

And with no bend they are not deformed out of shape but their positioning goes all really strange.

Secondly it'd be nice to have an option for similar to the old functionality in the grouping method of the Compose node. Sometimes it's preferential for all nodes to be positioned in relation to the first's pivot point. Especially if you are trying to place a second object in relation to the first with the pivot point is set differently for this reason. It can be awkward to get items to align how you wish other wise, especially with X pivot often needing to be automatic for things to align correctly.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for the feedback. That positioning is a byproduct of the way that pivots are used in Group mode. The rotation of a segment's pivots are basically calculated from the leftmost point of the segment, which results in the issue you have encountered.

We'll take a look at it and see what can be done and I'll pass on the request for the old group mode too. In the meantime, you might find you can get something similar using Sequential mode and adjusting the padding values. I've attache a file to illustrate.

I hope that helps,

Paul
