RC5 Installation/Update Question
« on: January 03, 2022, 09:19:21 AM »
Hello again!

Do I have to uninstall previous version and install new version everytime we get an update? Because during installation, it asked me "we have to uninstall previous one, are you sure?" and I said yes. At the end nothing happened.
I've upgraded from 4 to 5 and 5.0.6 to 5.0.8, both same. Last time I installed 5.0.8 but when I check Max, it still looks 5.0.6. Is it correct?

Also I wish a "more parametric" year to all iToo family!

Hi,

There is no need for any special process and the installer should do that version upgrade uninstall the previous version automatically. When installing our plug-in(s), please double check you are not running any 3ds max related (like the VRay Spawner) service during the installation process. Sometimes, even closed, 3ds max might not shut down correctly and its processes are still running in the background. To check this you can go to the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc and make sure they've both have shut down correctly. That should help.

Best regards,

Hi!

I'm back with my weird situation. I tried to stop running services as much as I can do, as you suggested, but at the end it was same. Stupid thing is, when I try to uninstall from windows programs it looks like last version. Please check the attached image.
Something wrong but I don't understand what... I'm sure it will work when I uninstall first but I'm just giving feedback.

Thank you for your help

Hi,

That's really strange. Please try the following:
  • Be sure 3ds max and and related services are closed
  • Delete the railclonepro.dlo from the "plugins" Max folder (<maxdir>\plugins\) and all RailcloneVRay??.dll files from the max root folder
  • Reinstall the RailClone plug-in
I hope that helps.

Best regards,

Hello again!

My problem is solved! Huge thanks to Michal, Carlos, Paul and all iToo team for their efforts to solve my problem.
I'll put it as a future reference for anyone who may face it.

Actually that's quite simple but hard to notice. In my 3ds max's Plug-in Manager there was no Additional Max plug-ins and max read all plug-ins data from stdplugins folder instead of plugins folder.
Even if I update RC, new files goes to plugins folder.

So through Customize > Configure User and System Paths > 3rd Party Plugins I added my plugins folder's directory and also deleted railclonepro.dlo from stdplugins folder.

Now my update is working as usual.

Again, thank you guys.
