Title: Rotation 15Degrees
Post by: James Vella on July 09, 2020, 12:25:05 PM
Hi,

Im making a weave pattern and have the horizontal/vertical working fine. I need to add a cross section thats rotated at 15 degrees, but I cant seem to get it flush to each edge and also connected at the top and bottom.

so far I just used a transform of 15degrees, I tried a few other options but running out of ideas how to fix these 2 things. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

The setup is using an Array with X/Y spline.

Cheers,
James

I fixed the flush to edge issue by changing it to a default segment, however I still cannot connect the top and bottom of the piece (assuming its the 15 degree rotation). There must be a simple way to have them rotate and align?

hard to understand the situation without a max file.

Good point Rokas. I have attached the native 2019 file and saved down to 2016 in case.

I have the other 2 Arrays switched off in RC (these are working), the remaining one is the one im having issues with.

edit:
FYI, the splines are straight atm, but I will bend them later, hence the normalized spline for curvature.

Basically all I want to do is have that piece 15 degrees rotated from top to bottom. Every time I use a translate it moves it over and creates a gap. I just want it to continue like the verticals do but on an angle. It sounds like something so simple I cant find anything in the settings to make this work as expected (marked in red below)

Thanks for max file.

That is just a matter of some trigonometry:

Exposed angle for easy modifications as well.

Hope this helps

Thank you Rokas - you saved the day! This is certainly what I was trying to achieve - I would have never worked this out on my own lol. Ill play with it and let you know if I have any follow up questions.
