I have a transform node which adds padding and random translation. After this node my segments no long conform to the terrain. Do you have any solutions for this?

You have set segments settings to "stepped". Please play with deform settings to Your desired result:

but we did not wish to bend the object, we just wanted to place it in the correct place with the pivot point on the terrain. If we bend the object then it's deformed out of shape. i realise this is getting into ForestPack functionality a bit, but it seems like it should be possible.

Then solution is not to use Padding on the segments.

You can compose Your segment with an empty segment with Your padding values:
