Slice help
« on: January 05, 2019, 04:00:39 PM »
It's been a few projects since using RC so I'm very rusty, however....
I'm really embarrassed but I cannot seem to slice the default segment correctly.
It is a field of these rhomboid tiles, no maps, just one white material.
I have my RC setup good, but the slicing is vexing me, lol.
Anyone mind advising how to slice the pictured mesh so I can use it properly in my Array2S?
 Thanks!

I would slice it like this:

I would recommend reading this thread and where it links as well.

Darn,

I cannot get it to work as a vertical surface.  No matter what it just says No Geometry.
My spline is a simple rectangle.  Surely there must be a simple way to make it go from horizontal to vertical?

Thanks in advance.

What do You mean from horizontal to vertical?
Could You attach Your Max file to illustrate ?

Maybe You need to realign RailClone object?

Sorry, I got that figured but now I am stuck with the GAP size.
I'm currently experimenting with your 3rd method from that post.
I have everything how I need it, but the following.

-gap size is non-uniform
-can I simplify this style for one single color material? (I tried but I keep breaking it.)

Thanks again for patiently helping me stumble through this, lol.  It's been a long time since using RC or keeping up with the forum and tutorials.

Edit: Update, I have it all set now, thanks again.

Great. It was just a matter of some trigonometry:

Great reply!  It is much neater than my attempt.  I just eyeballed the different padding values to get it close enough, but your method is exact.
Thanks again,
