Title: Small gaps and Y-size scale?
Post by: DT on May 31, 2022, 06:58:56 PM
I'm trying to make a wall with an ARRAY 2S generator into a regular linear 1S. But I've noticed that there are very small gaps between the default and corner segments. (Scene attached)

I also would like the segments to scale in the Y size like they do in the X size, is this possible?

Please see the attached file for a possible solution. I've changed a couple of things as follows:

1 - Removed the L1S generator. I didn't think it was necessary, but maybe you need it for some other plans further down the road.
2 - Changed Default mode to Count with a value of 1. I'm not sure why but it gave me more reliable slicing on the corners
3 - Exported the Y Size of the Start, End and Default segments and wired them to the Y size parameter - top and bottom size.

I hope that helps,

Paul

Hi Paul could it be that you uploaded the same file again?

In the mean time I have other problems. I'm trying to create some markers so I can make for instance a hole of a certain height and width in the wall, or other types of nested generators. All good but he creates a new wall on another part of the spline for some reason. And the Z offset of the wall isn't correct either.

Also how can I make the endings, of where the geometrie of the marker begins, end with the chamfered geometry. (see screenshot). And the same for the ending of the geometrie of the marker. Because right now both are cut.

Thank you.

Apologies, you're right I uploaded the same file again.

In the file attached to this post, I've taken a different approach completely and nested L1S generators to create a wall with openings that can be added using markers. The marker data can be used to set the opening's height and width. It probably looks more complex than it is. I've used Sequence nodes to create the patterns of plinth and opening and scaled the segments to set the sizes. There's a lot of manual maths in there to get the right size, but it's only basic addition and subtraction.

Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions,

Paul

Hi Paul,

Waaw thanks very much. You're right it looks complex :D I can't seem to grasp the solution. Not very flexibel to changes either because I don't know what is going on. There's a few more nested generators that need to be put in to the marker slot and I'm afraid I will lose it when I'm going to try it this way. It's weird because I thought my solution should work, no idea where it's going wrong.

The small gaps are still there too, they disappear if I put the railclone to mesh and put a vertex weld on top though. But weird overall.

Yes, it is a bit complex I'm afraid. I went down this route because of the difficulty with capping those open walls around the windows with a chamfer. I'm not sure if it would suit your use case, but you might find it easier to create this using material IDs assigned to the splines instead of markers. That way you can easily have single, easy(er) to understand, generators assigned to each spline section.

Cheers,
Paul

My previous RailClone worked with spline IDs, but the problem with those is that I can't have different heights then, only widths? Or not?

You're right - you couldn't easily do heights using material IDs.

Here's another attempt that uses A2S generators that's more in line with your original approach. It's still a bit busy, but you should be able to easily add additional objects on the markers simply by adding new A2S arrays.

Cheers,
Paul

Waaw Paul, thanks so much, I learn a lot from these solutions too. Appreciate it!
