Title: Something changed about the way RC recognizes surfaces?
Post by: IT1371 on October 26, 2022, 03:08:04 PM
Hello,

I've been using this feature to drop RC geometry to surfaces forever. It's been working great for many years and now, in the simplest project I can imagine, it pretty much makes scrambled eggs.
The objective is simple - have those 60cm planes lay flat on top of the pavement geometry. Previously I used it via the evenly rule, but now I just assign it to markers instead.
3ds max file attached.

I tried adding retopology or subdivides to the pavement object but it makes no difference.
Same goes for the segment I want distributed...

How can I fix that?

Hi,

Well, the “rcline” spline is right on the edge of the “pavement” object used as a Surface in the RailClone object. Making the surface slightly larger (for example by using the Edit Polygons > Outline & Inset tools) is good practice to avoid any unwanted deformations. In this case, increasing the Y Offset parameter slightly seems to fix it also.

Please find attached the modified scene (221027_sample_iToo.max).

Best regards,
