Spacing issue on bridge
« on: February 15, 2017, 04:16:44 PM »
Hello,

I'm pretty new to using RailClone. I'm trying to setup a bridge to where you can change the width of it through a parameter and everything will scale/adjust to that. I'm having difficulties with get some spacing on the support piers. I am able to get them spaced out on X the way I want them but I can't figure out how to get them spaced out on Y.
I've attached some screenshots of what I'm doing. The whole bridge is run off of one spline and for the support piers I'm using an A2S.

Hi,

Well, that's because the Array 2S Generator generates rows - in this case I would say unnecessary. As mentioned in the chapter 9 "Create your first 2d array" of our "Getting Started with RailClone" guide: "The best way to understand the nuances of the A2S generator is to think of it as a stack of L1S generators."

In my opinion, for this kind of set-up, the Linear1S Generator would be a better (easier to set-up) option. With the "Road Width" Numeric Parameter you can drive the Y Fixed Size of used Segments and the "Support Spacing" would handle the Evenly Distance. Attaching a sample scene. Hope you'll find it useful.

Best regards,

Thank you for the quick response!!

I should of been more clear on my initial post. What I'm needing is to add more support pillar as the bridge gets wider. In my first screenshot where it shows 9 pillars I want there to only be 3 or 4 pillars and as the bridge widens it will add additional pillars at a set distance. An example would be if the bridge is 25 feet wide I want it to have 2 support pillars and at 50 feet wide, 4 support pillars.

I've attached a screenshot to better describe what I mean. For this screenshot I just used a L1S and did a mirror on the pillar with a Y offset. I'm just not sure how to go about getting additional pillars.

Thanks again for the help!!

Hi,

In such case, the Array 2S Generator would be the right choice. Please find attached a possible style set-up. Hope you'll find useful. In case of any question or doubt, please don't hesitate to ask.

This is just what I was needing!! I'll have to tinker with the padding a bit to get it to line up with my top supports but this is great.

Thanks a lot!
