These railings...
« on: February 10, 2015, 03:36:16 PM »
Hey chaps,

I'm currently trying to create some railings like the ones in the photo attached. I've also attached a screenshot of where I am at, and the max file too.

I want the columns at 3300mm spacings (though in areas of my model this will be different - so need to accomodate for this), and the railings to have a gap of 100mm between the start and the columns; which I have achieved at the ends, but not at the columns in the middle. Any help would be much appreciated. If you see the images you should get an idea of what I'm after.

Hi Macker,

Please find attached a possible solution. It uses the new Generator > Padding and Sequence > Export > Count properties so it'll need the recent beta to work correctly. It works by dividing up the evenly distance (3300 but it can be anything) for the metal railing and then using the same divisor with a Sequence operator to control the number of Railing Uprights needed before a column.

I hope that helps, if you need anything else please let me know.

Kind regards,

Paul

Ohhh actually, there's a problem when you take it around a corner? The railings don't then match up to the columns...

Hi Macker,

I think in this situation the simplest solution is probably to use the evenly input only for the metal fence uprights and use the corner input to add the posts. It's then just a case of quickly refining the spline to add the posts exactly where you need them. I've attached a file with the revised style.

I hope this helps, Please let me know if you have further questions.

Many thanks,

Paul
