Title: Top and bottom for evenly
Post by: raistlin on August 08, 2013, 11:08:42 AM
Hi Itoo!

• I have understand how to create some style and found that a bottom and top for X evenly... And right and left for Y evenly... Just that Because we'd have to compose with a nuique segment...
If we want to apply a specific evenly line on X for exemple by a point on the width spline, i just have to hope my sequence fall good...

• Does a 1S RC object could be implement as a X or Y evenly?

• And one other question, can you give us the choice on what spline could control the railclone X or Y, because only the first spline could control the slope, the other is only for length...

• It should be really cool to control a "surface" parametricaly with Railclone with two curves and not only straight lines. (yes it need a third spline to clos the shape...)

Thanks in advcance and sorry for the questions!
Cheers

Yes, you can use other RailClone object as Segment input. In this way, it's possible to define top/bottom pieces and keep it parametric.

Sorry, i don't understand. Do you want some mechanism to switch X and Y splines ? What is the purpose exactly ? You can assign a same spline to both X/Y slots, but i'm not sure is that is what you like...

Currently it's possible to create curved surfaces, using two curved splines. As shown here:

We have plans to support additional generators with more than 2 splines in the future, although we must complete other priority features before.

thanks for the reply !

For the two splines, i ask about the order of our splines. In fact the first is consider for the "form" of our Railclone object, and the second for the height of it. I've see that we can curv everything, but in the case of a roof for example, i've to put my slope spline (the Y one) as the first (X one...) and vice versa.
With that i just have to project my brain to 90° and compose my roof, but it's a pain...

Is there a trick to incline the Y spline? Because turning everything to 90° isn't really userfriendly...
I hope you can understand that i'm thinking about that...

I've a request about roof in all...
Could we have a half tiled repartition of mesh in railclone (sure i've try with two segment and a sequence operator... But if i pad two the half size of the mesh, there is a hole on the end of the line, and i cannot slice that automatically..

Sure i've the worst question of the day ^^

Thx for your help!

Yes, in fact i think it's easier to build the roof in that way: use the X spline for the base, and Y for slope (see image). Even it's posible to define the slope without a Y spline:

1) Detach the Spline node from the Y slot.
2) Set the Y length at Generator->Y Size.
3) Rotate the roof plane using Generator->X Rotation.

To create roofs, also it's very useful to use a "Clipping Area". In this way, you can "cut" the tiles easily, using a closed spline from top view.

Please, take a look to the following post. It describes how to build a common bond pattern, which has exactly the same problem:

No, but probably the most interesting. :-)

Thx ;)

I keep an eye on!
And yes, the clipping area is really interesting for roofing :), The only problem (leaks) i found for now, is only the two splines limitations. Sometimes we have forms... pretty complicated that need a third one...

But now, i've see that you plan to add it :) i'll pray to have it quickly ^^

Mmm Ok i've a look on a solution like that but i've always the problem of the half textured one...
Sometimes it's falls right, sometimes not... Maybe an element or an option to slice hard and cap-hole the meshe to the extreme point of the spline (maybe an option to pad in or out...) In that case we can build everything from a spline like shingles, bricks, stones, wood...
Should be cool :)

But thx for your answer!

If you have some style with that problem, please upload the scene and we'll take a look to it. Theorically, these cases should be resolvable without adding new features. If not, we'll evaluate it as well.

Ok i'll prepare a base for you and send in the afternoon (i swear)
