Train cars with Rail Clone?

I wanted and tried to use rail clone to create a locomotive and come cars attached to it.  I can't seem to get them to respect their individual sizes or follow the "leader".  Has anyone done this with Rail Clone?  Seems like it should be simple but I am having issues with making it predictable.  The reason I want to use rail clone if possible is because then i can vary the cars type and train car counts as needed.

This is a super example, a huge help.  I've been in a pinch about this so I really appreciate your help!  Interesting to separate the trucks and treat them as their own element entirely, i wouldn't have thought of that!  Cheers!
