Unwanted welding of verts in Railclone
« on: March 07, 2014, 01:26:43 AM »
Hello,

We are getting some unexpected results with RC welding verts at the spline boundaries. This only seems to happen when our scene units are in meters, but unfortunately some of our scenes have to be in meters as they are quite large.

Both of these RC's are the default Parquet strips on a 4m x 4m rectangle, and a 400cm x 400cm rectangle. The scale of the boards adjust fine to the different scene units scales but I can't seem to solve the vert welding problem.

I'm afraid there is not other workaround for this problem, except not using meters as scene units.

This bug is caused by the Max boolean function, which we use for the clipping operations. Probably because these problems, Autodesk included in Max other boolean functions that work much better (as ProBoolean), but unfortunately they are not available for third-party plugins.

We are working to find an alternative to the Max booleans, to solve this issue completely.
I apologize by the problems.

Hi there,

I tried modelling the floorbaords as a mesh and then applying the boolean and I did find the pinching issue but only with the intersection, Subtraction and Union. When ever I used the cut option it worked - no matter how small the board thickness.

I have attached the max 2014 scene.

What boolean function are you using in RC?

We use the function equivalent to Intersection/Difference... but you are right, the cut option doesn't fail (sincerely, i didn't try that).

I'm making tests using the cut function in RailClone and it works better, although fails with certain segments near of the edge. But i think we could fix this issue, we'll work on that...

Thanks for the tip !

Great - that would be really good if we can get it working.

Let me know if you need me to do any testing.

Hello,

Was this issue fixed in the latest version of RC?
