Hi everyone in iToosoft,
I was going to upgrade the Railclone pro in my renderfarm. BUT!
Why did you force me to download the stuff online via update manager ? Now, how can I install all the additional stuff to all my render salves offline in my renderfarm ?
Why ? I really need a whole package to install the software completely offline.

Oh sorry, I find it how to install these stuff offline.
But I must download once online. I couldn't even finish the downloading once.
Is it possible to send me the additional content by Email or something ?

Hi,

The recommendable way would be to download and create a distribution package of the assets using a computer that is connected to the internet. Then install these assets to the off-line computers (you can find the detailed description of this "To install packages on a computer without an internet connection" procedure in our on-line reference guide).

For render farms and large organizations where it is more efficient to update content silently, there are 3 options. You can find these under the "To use unattended installation" section.

One of the main reasons were the growing size of the installer and the necessity with any new release re-download all libraries & maps, though some didn't change since the last published version. Also, this way it allows to update / add new libraries at any time without need to release a new version of the plug-in itself.

Best regards,

WHY OH WHY IS THIS PER USER?!?!? Why can we not set this to install default content and updates to a network location leaving more space on the local HD?!? Or at least let us put this on a shared location on the local drive as per the original RailClone prior to 3.0.

We have multiple users per machine, so now we have to install default content many times on the same machine to keep RailClone from breaking! :-(

It works per user because update checking is done from Max, which runs in user mode. If not, Update Manager would require admin rights each time it runs, which is a worse approach.

We have plans to include an 'admin' mode for Update Manager, for customers that prefer that option.
Until then, please see this FAQ entry. It describes how to configure RailClone and Update Manager to use a shared network path. Basically it's the same process we want to include, but configuring it manually.

I hope that helps.

This looks like it will work. Thanks! I will pass this along to our network admin.
