Made simple Array but projected geometry behaving odd.

I am having issues projecting an array to a sloped facade. Basically I am trying to array glazing onto a surface. The projection is only projecting onto parts of the surface mesh. If I move the railclone left or right and changes the size of the projection. Any idea how to fix this?

Hi,

The RailClone plug-in builds the array based on its local coordinates - as in your case it's not perfectly vertical, I would suggest you to recreate the RC object using a Helper - Grid (or quickly by using the AutoGrid option). To perform slicing correctly the Clipping Area option should be set to For No-Slice - Slice and used Segment ("GlazingB") should have the Deform - Slice option disabled. We'll investigate why it's in this specific case needed.

Perfect thanks! This works great. How would I do this for a curved surface if the autogrid does not completely align.

Hi,

As metioned in this "More tutorials" related thread:

RailClone is not strictly speaking a panelling tool, though it is possible to project a 2d array onto a surface to achieve some similar effects. However currently this won't work well on surfaces where the faces are very steep or facing away from the RailClone object. You can read more about using surfaces here.

To work correctly the RailClone object should be entirely enclosed by the boundaries of the surface. If the RailClone object overlaps a boundary, unwanted deformation can occur. Feel free to scale down your Clipping Spline (Shape002) a bit to double check, that it should help with those artefacts on your original non-aligned RC object.

In some specific situations, you might find useful the work-flow described in following "Interesting structure , help needed :)" post.
