V-Ray and motion blur
« on: February 21, 2017, 03:11:09 PM »
I'm trying to render an animation with a car driving through a forest, and no matter what I do, I can't get the Forest or RailClone objects to render with motion blur.
I've had the problem in the past with Forest v4, then it worked again with one of the updates, and now I'm on Forest 5.2.0 / RailClone 2.7.4 and V-Ray 3.5 in Max 2016, and I just can't get it to render.

It may not be a Forest / RailClone problem, I might be doing something wrong.
Is there anything special I need to do to get it working?

Due to the nature of the scene, my physical camera is static, and the world is animated past the camera.
Motion blur is turned on in the physical camera, and in the render settings.

I'll be grateful for any tips!

Dave

Edit: Just tried the Forest 5.2.2 beta because of official support for V-Ray 3.5, but that made no difference.
I also just realised I posted this in the RailClone forum instead of the Forest forum, but the problem applies to both plugins.

Edit 2: Just tried to render a velocity pass in case I can't get any motion blur to render, and that doesn't work either.
My terrain geometry shows up perfectly in the velocity pass, and wherever a Forest / RailClone object is, the velocity pass is just grey.

I'm going to answer my own question now :o)

The problem is the static camera.

Unfortunately we're pretty much forced to use a static camera, so it doesn't look like we're going to be able to use any motion blur at all.

Hi Dave,

You should be able to render the Motion Blur effect even on a "still camera". In case, you're using the Physical Camera, please double check you have the Physical Camera - Shutter - Enable Motion Blur option enabled and the Forest / RC objects are animated (it shouldn't be animated just the base spline). Attaching a sample scene. Hope you'll find it useful.

Best regadrs,
