Variant width along the alignment.
« on: November 23, 2016, 03:42:15 PM »
Hi there,

I have a modelling task of a pedestrian bridge that requires changing width along the bridge's alignment (Please see the attachment for section/plan of the bridge). My question is if it is possible to accomplish my task with Railclone (mine is 2.7.4)? If yes then could you provide some instructions? I was looking at Itoo tutorials and have only seen the ability to change height along the alignment. I am new to the software.

I have attempted to spit the bridge section in pieces and at very least, I still need to be able to make the wood planks change their widths along the alignment.

Thank you,

Hi,

Well, as mentioned in this "Road creation width" related thread - "the scale is not progressive", but it might be possible by dividing it into separate parts.

I would suggest you to try split it into three generators:

(1) For sides, using two "border" splines
(2) For boards, where creating and using a "centre" spline and a closed spline (made from "border" splines) as a Clipping area would be recommendable
(3) For support structure, using the "centre" spline

Hope that helps.

Best regadrs,

Michal,

Thank you for your suggestion. I will try that and come back with the result/issues. Gotta go through a learning curve here.

Prior to posting to the forum, I have employed similar approach to your suggestion and converted the rail clone objects to Editable-poly to move parts manually. It looked ok from afar but close-up views were unusable. I am trying not to convert to editable-poly this time.

Thanks,
