We are preparing new libraries and would like to ask our users. Please vote in this thread for what classes of styles would you like to find in next updates of RailClone Pro.
You can also post ideas, photographs or drawings for elements that you would like to use in your projects. All ideas and suggestions are more than welcome.
-
I was going to put my vote in for "other" but it's too vague. But I'd still like to share some ideas for it.
Some things I'd like to see are all kinds of wooden fences. General examples:
https://www.google.com/search?q=wooden+fence&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=YkY_UsftNvSu4AOWm4GgDQ&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1680&bih=972&dpr=1 (https://www.google.com/search?q=wooden+fence&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=YkY_UsftNvSu4AOWm4GgDQ&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1680&bih=972&dpr=1)
Most of the examples above are pristine.
It would be cool to also include dilapidated and weathered fences:
https://www.google.com/search?q=wooden+fence&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=YkY_UsftNvSu4AOWm4GgDQ&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1680&bih=972&dpr=1#q=old+wooden+fence&tbm=isch (https://www.google.com/search?q=wooden+fence&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=YkY_UsftNvSu4AOWm4GgDQ&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1680&bih=972&dpr=1#q=old+wooden+fence&tbm=isch)
Those be helpful for some of the environments I'm personally working on and would be good for game designers creating worn environments.

A few more
1. Office ceilings (Like http://www.armstrong.com/commceilingsna/scene7_popup.jsp?s=CP870_lightened&n=Clean%20Room%20VL&rs=RS870_CleanRoomVL%20NEW&v=rs (http://www.armstrong.com/commceilingsna/scene7_popup.jsp?s=CP870_lightened&n=Clean%20Room%20VL&rs=RS870_CleanRoomVL%20NEW&v=rs) by Armstrong for example.)
2. Wainscoting kit, for inside and outside corners, as well as straight lengths. (This would be the best!)

Thanks for the suggestions, they're all very helpful and have been added to our wishlist. A few of these have also already made their way into recent releases of RailClone. In addition you should a see a tutorial on creating ceilings released in the near future. :)
Thanks,
Paul

One more that often come up...walls of arranged framed and unframed artwork.

I would appreciate the libraries that are there to be upgraded or improved.
For starters:
1: Make the built in kerb libraries have drop kerbs as per the tutorials that exist.
Almost every situation that calls for a kerb calls for a drop kerb, so the existing libraries are almost useless - when were they created or updated?
2: Make the grass areas have better edging.
Again, tutorials exist that allow you to create smaller lumps of grass around the edges of grass areas so they better fit their environment.
Almost every scenario I need to use grass in needs to have this facility - I don't know why you would not include this as a a facility of the default libraries.
the default libraries should represent the BEST examples of what can be done with Railclone, not crude low poly efforts.
3. Some of the maps for some items (kerbs and sidewalks) are almost low poly and rudimentary. It would be preferable to have something that can stand up to scrutiny.
4. Improved roads and mapping. The tiling asphalt material is pretty slack. It would be great to have roads that work on junctions. anyone can create a straight road, however junctions and kerbs are areas where Railclone is useful, and those areas seem to be lacking.
-
Although I am still very thankful for the presets, I must agree with mynewcat on many of those points ;)
Oh, I forgot to add, of course, the current presets included are still worth every penny of the price of the license, imo, and they do come in handy in a pinch, or in BG.
-
Hi,
First of all, thanks for your suggestions. Your feedback is highly appreciated and will help us to improve our products.
You are right, apologies by that. These styles are a bit obselote because were created for RC 1.x. I've discussed this issue with our team, and we have plans to rebuild many of these elements, including more detailed meshes and using all features available in RC 2.x.
Unfotunately the technique used in the Grass Edges tutorial (http://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/tutorial_grass_edges.php) cannot applied to the library, because it requires multiple areas. But area settings are ignored by the presets.
This is by design. If not, a preset would overwrite the areas created by the user.
Also, the tutorial's technique is a bit rudimentary. We have several ideas to solve grass edges in a cleaner way. We are working on that.
Same as point 1. Although RailClone cannot solve junctions (this is an old issue discussed in other threads (http://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=2238.0)), we like to improve all maps and the Civil Engineering styles.

Nice suggestions everyone. Thanks and keep them coming, they're all going on our wishlists.
Many thanks,
Paul.
@TL1895 Funny you say that I've been experimenting with creating space frames - I think there's potential for a useful library or tut in steelwork generally.

-
Paul, Funny indeed! I completely agree about the potential, and that test is sure looking good 8)
-
+1 for ceiling tiles.
I'm just going through the tutorials you guys made - very good.
Stuff like that needs to go right into the libraries.
Would be nice if we could add sprinkler tiles as well.
Also - I'm trying to edit the tutorial and use lights as objects, bur I guess that's not possible high, because that would be awesome!
-
Roof Tiles
Very powerfull plugin. Even if i use only 5 % of it´s power it is very usefull for me.
RoofTiles would be great!
-
Hey,
I'd like to vote for stairs, see pictures attached.
Is the style library content under http://www.itoosoft.com/railclone/library.php still up to date or are there new models already?
Greetings :)
And a big +1 for roof tiles with proper left, right and top edges!
-
For me, siding, shakes, asphalt shingles, and brick. Basically, everything you'd need to do a house.
-
Hi Guys!!!
I want to suggest, if its posible... Tiled walls. Bricks types.
Cheers
-
Cladding, roofing and walls are on our list - as is making them easier to apply ;)
-
What about Windows ? Especially for curved frames or frames round a corner - would be quiet nice :)
I'm agree. parametric Windows would be great !
Congratulations for your work and your support !
-
Windows and doors! Windows and doors! Windows and doors!
Windows? Doors?
Windows! Doors!
Cheers,
B.
-
I'm guessing you'd like windows and doors? ;D
Are there any particular styles or manufacturers that would be particularly useful (with broad appeal) for your work?
Thanks!
Paul

Hey Paul!
Thanks for your interest - yes, windows and doors are a particular concern of mine. If they are badly modeled and implemented they can really drag the work down I find. I loved the parameterised window tutorial btw, and have begun building a little library but yes if RailClone came with some out of the box, I'm sure you'd make a lot of users happy!
If a budget allowed it and I were given the choice, I would use windows and doors by the German company; Hueck - they make tremendously high quality products. Particularly the 'Lambda' range of products. http://www.hueck.com/
However, the company I do a lot of work for uses these products, from a company in Sweden - here's the brochure:
http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/15562926#/15562926/12
This would be great if such models were incorporated into RailClone.
Thanks again for listening to your customers!
Barry
-
I'd love a really varied set of roof tiles/shingles (preferrably something based on real-world products).
-
Hi!
Roofing is on the list, but if there are real world products you use regularly please let me know.
Cheers!
Paul
-
We often specify Marley Eternit
https://www.marleyeternit.co.uk/
-
Hi,
Thanks for the link, that should be useful for future updates. I think we have some similar styles in our new library - you can see a it here
http://d.pr/v/eBXL
Colours in the thumbnails are not fixed, there are actually 20 map variations shared by the styles that can be used. Most tiles have verges.
We're also making it easier to apply roofs to splines and to make your own styles using other tile types. Feedback is welcome.
Many thanks!
Paul
-
Oh my goodness that looks PERFECT!
Are these available yet? (beta?) I literally have a project right now that I was just about to create a roof tile style for.
-
Thanks for the feedback. They're not available yet I'm afraid. The roofing styles use several new features that will be released in RailClone 3 so I'm afraid they wouldn't work with older versions.
Cheers,
Paul
-
Oh that's such a shame.
For the time being, what is the recommended method? I'll create a new topic for this actually...
-
I have to make these all the time...please please please:
-
Ditto, this remains on the top of my RailClone wish list ;)
Great job Itoo for actually creating many of these requests, so far!
-
In fact the shingle options on the site Macker sent are a great reference:
https://www.marleyeternit.co.uk/Timber/Shingles-and-Shakes/ShingleFix.aspx
-
Thanks for the suggestions guys. RC3 is out for beta testing now so we probably won't be able to get the shingles into this release, however there are many styles and macros that you will be able to easily adapt. Also we're working on a new library system that should make it much easier to push out incremental updates to the included styles, so keep the ideas coming :)
Cheers,
Paul.
-
Is it possible to know when final version of Railclone 3 with included new libraries will be released?
-
Can you create a system within RailClone (and Forest) so that users could submit their creations to an online browsable library where other users could then download and use them?
Creating these libraries is awesome, and I only can encourage more of it, but it would be awesome if we could post our own creations.
Ray

While this sound like a great idea and for many it would be very useful, how would you prevent the use of copyright material, in user created libraries? and would anyone have the time to vet each and every user library submission?. Sorry but I felt it necessary to ask.
-
How about a nice bifold door system to be included in the future? :)
-
Yes - Doors and Windows, still my TOP Nr. 1 ! :-)

Here are two common manufactures used by the "average joe" building his home:

https://www.schueco.com/web2/de/privatkunden/downloads?fragment=Accordion-fenster#Accordion-fenster
-
Thanks! Those references look handy.
-
All kind of Venetian blind - interior, exterior, horizontal, vertical...
stone walls
-
OK this is not really a vote for a new library as such, more of a change to how the library works. Lets say you choose a cladding item, which comes with a multi - material. How about when you choose that particular item in the library, it opens a sub library, showing thumbnails displaying the cladding with each individual material applied to it.. While I know it would be a lot of work at your end and you probably have a lot of other things with much higher priority.
One other thing..concerning hip and ridge tiles. While you have an option to mitre the ends of hip tiles which is great. Would it be possible to add a similar option to the ridge tiles, to remove that cap at the end, so that it looks more like this. Here in the UK, it is very rare to have that type of capping tile on a ridge.
-
Is there any development in Windows / Doors Library? Bifolded, Sliding etc. etc.
Has been a while that this Topic came up - but can't see any news around it?
-
Thanks for asking.
Nothing concrete yet, but it's still on the to-do list. We're planning to focus on the model libraries a lot more this year though.
Cheers,
Paul

This would be awesome !
i can't wait for the RC library-update since you've mentioned it in a recent tutorial video
-
Exhibition systems like Bematrix and Aluvision, if you check Octadesign for Octanorm system you'll see the price tag is way above that of Railclone's
though the earlier has quantifying features and part lists, but simply adding the exhibit systems to the library can open a new segment in the market.
-
I would vote for cloth Zippers and Stitching libraries
-
Hey Itoo,
Are the built-in libraries being phased-out?
They are still very old and demo-ish, and seems like updates to the libraries has halted some time ago...
Thanks
-
Hi,
Not at all, we have a member of staff working full time on assets, and the last release of RailClone saw several of them (about 160 as I recall) refreshed as part of an ongoing project to completely revamp all our content. you can expect more to be released soon.
Cheers,
Paul
-
Okay, good to hear...I did notice the previews are different...
Thanks,
