VRay Decal segment
« on: November 28, 2023, 10:50:13 AM »
Hi all,

I've just done a test to see if I can get Railclone to array the Vray decal as a segment (it can) but it doesn't operate as the Vray decal any more, it merely operates as box geometry.

Ideally I'd like to use Vray decal scattered along the edges of roads etc using Railclone, for debris and such.

Does anyone have any idea if/when this might be implemented?

Kind regards,
Chris

Hi,

No, it's not possible. V-Ray doesn't allow to instantiate decal objects.

Same limitation applies to other tools (VRayInstancer, ChaosScatter, etc.).
If at some time V-Ray supports instancing for decals, it would work automatically for RailClone as well.

The only way is to convert RailClone to standalone objects, using RailClone Tools.

Hi,

I've been bugging Chaos to support Decal for ForestPack, Railclone and their own Scatter plugin, so far not a lot of response. I gathered some votes on their idea portal: https://chaosvray.ideas.aha.io/ideas/SCATTER-I-6 So if anyone would like to cast their vote, it might speed things up.

But I've seen in the changelogs of the latest Railclone: - Fixed issue using VRayDecal with opacity maps and instancing engine.

If it's not supported what does this fix actually? Or is this only when converting back to seperate objects?

Hi, that fix was for RC objects receiving a decal texture, not instancing the VRayDecal object itself. Unfortunately that is not supported by V-Ray yet.
