Title: Wall height based on spline
Post by: NCViz on June 02, 2020, 05:01:03 PM
Is it possible to control the height of a wall with a spline?  I am trying to build a noise wall like the one attached.  The top of wall elevation varies and is stepped.

Hi
Yes, it is possible. Here is a simple setup with Spline + Surface to match.
Please check the Deform settings both for Pole and Wall segments.
here is some documentation & tutorial on that subject:

Best Regards

Thank you for your response.  This is similar to what I was trying but I need the top of the wall to actually follow the spline in elevation which varies.  Ideally I would be able to stack panels vertically until they reach the elevation of the spline.

Ok, then use XsplineCoord.Z in expression to get Z coordinate of the spline and use this value to control the height of the walls. Just keep in mind that the origin will be the position of RC Icon.
This tutorial explains:

note: this tutorial is for RC3 so please remember that for RC4 Expression needs RETURN for the start and   ;   at the end of the expression.
If you are in a hurry and need a Generator I could make one for you when I`m back on the computer later this evening.
It will be nice if you can share your start scene file. Please downgrade it to Max2017/2018.

I've played with this some but can't get it right.  Attached is my scene file.  I was in the middle of experimenting with using a separate top panel when I gave up.  The competed wall in the background is one that was built manually on another project.

I apologize.  I forgot to do that.  2018 file attached.

Hi
This could be one of the possible solutions.
Note: Spline is reversed.

This looks good.  Thank you for your help.  What determines how far under ground the panels go?

 Z position of RC icon.
