Title: Wall on uneven terrain
Post by: Geoff K on June 27, 2017, 10:18:56 PM
I am trying to create a palace wall on a hilly surface, but I am running into problems where the wall has sharp angles.

See this video (http://www.geoffkornfeld.com/WallProblem-1.mp4), and notice how the corners separate.

Is there any way around this?

I keep thinking it would be nice if RailClone could work with splines and generate behavior like Max's Bevel Profile modifier.

Thanks!

Hi Geoff,

Unfortunate, it's more tricky than it seems at first sight. For example the mentioned Bevel Profile modifier rotates it. If you want it to behave in a similar way, you should use the Deform - Adaptive mode for such Segment.

As mentioned in this tightly related post (https://forum.itoosoft.com/index.php?topic=1976.msg7301#msg7301): "... this is a limitation of this kind of joinery, it wouldn't be possible to create this joint with a simple mitre in real life. This kind of joint would only really work with handrail with a circular cross-section or other profiles where there is no need for a particular face to stay pointing upwards."

Best regadrs,
