Title: Wood Shingle Tiles Overlap
Post by: iCreateLtd on July 20, 2020, 09:07:14 PM
Hi all.

At work, we often find it hard if we need to control the look of roof tiles.  Often, nothing we do seems to work.

I'm working on a job where I need to do wood tiles/shingles.

Like this.. Actually, exactly like this as this is the island we're doing a job for:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px8cFTrSqJk&feature=youtu.be&t=386 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px8cFTrSqJk&feature=youtu.be&t=386)

Would someone mind looking at this max file?

My issue is that I want more overlap.  Because I've done some oddly shaped tiles, it's leaving gaps.

1: These are the main tiles
2: This is the tile & half for ends
3:  I tried to add another object ontop of a tile - in the hope that this would fill holes.  It didn't work.  It just made bigger holes.  I presume because RC detects the bounding box of the object.

If anyone can help with this that'd be great.... Because it's driving me nuts.

Maybe what I'll have to do is duplicate the spline and move it up a bit.  And attach them.  That may do  a dual layer.

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the question. I see you are using the Tile macro. There are two controls that govern the overlap in this Macro, the main one being the Angle paramter. However this is heavily dependent on the thickness of the tile to calculate the overlap, so you can override this using the Tile Thickness parameter. As you can see, the smaller you set this value, the more overlap you will get.

I hope that helps,
