RailclonePro on RebusFarm
« on: January 04, 2012, 10:02:59 AM »
We are investigating outsourcing our rendering to RebusFarm (www.rebusfarm.net) but our projects make extensive use of RailClonePro. The guys at RebusFarm aren't sure if they will be able to install the RailClonePro plugin on their systems as it is commercial.

Can you let me know if it will be possible for them to do it?

Cheers.
Kind Regards,
Rich

I have just had a response from Andre at Rebus:-

"sorry - rail need to be install by hand each pc - its not simply copy of the dlo files
the plugin write some registry keys i cant isolate
i whould need days to complete the install (500 pc ! )"

Is this true  ???

There must be a way to install across multiple machines automatically?
Kind Regards,
Rich

They will need a copy of RailClone Pro to render the scene, but we can send a NFR license to them.

About the installation, the registry keys are required only for the interactive mode. The plugin can be installed in the render nodes copying only some files. The procedure is describe here (see the Network rendering section):

Please, give me a contact e-mail and i will write to Andre.

Alternatively, you would convert RailClone to stand-alone objects, using the new instancing tool included in v.1.3.0 (RailClone Tools). Once converted, you can remove the RailClone objects from the scene, so it is not needed to have the plugin in the render farm.

Yes, there is a specific option for render nodes in the setup program. They don't require a license, you can install RailClone on them without restrictions.
