Preserving Vertex Color in the RailClone Object
« on: November 21, 2012, 11:00:15 AM »

I have two segments, which has vertex color.

Once i use those to create a Rail Clone object, the railclone object doesn't preserve the source segment's vertex color. It turns the vcolor of the railclone to white.

Is there anyway to get the vertex color info in the rail clone object?

Would be great..!

Thanks.

What render engine do you use, Mental Ray or VRay ?

I am using a realtime viewport shader, which uses vertex color to blend texture.

Ok, i have found the problem. We use several functions to create the final geometry, depending of the render engine and use of instances. In this case, the procedure which creates the raw mesh (scanline/viewport) is not handling properly the vertex channel.

Unfortunately there is not a workaround. We will fix it for the next update, but if this is a big problem for you, please tell me and i will send you a custom patch.

Please, check your e-mail. I just sent you the patch.

This version generates properly the Vertex Color data, although it is not visible in the viewport (unfortunately, this would require deep modifications in the code). I hope it works with your shader.

If it doesn't work, besides using the patch, try adding a VertexPaint modifer to the RailClone object.

Thanks a lot Carlos!

Works like a charm. As you said, i sometimes have to put a vertex paint modifier to update in the railclone object.
