Problem adding new library
« on: November 22, 2010, 02:16:09 PM »
Hello

I have tried now for some time to create my first personal library for RC but I can't make it to work. I can add a new folder, and a new folder under that then last a new library under that. This is what I got:
C:\Users\UserName\Documents\RailClone\libs\Lamps\Street Lamps.
Under that, a new folder called thumbnails was created for me, and also a file called index.xml. Under the folder thumbnails, I copy/paste my pictures for my objects I like to add to the library, no problems so far.
My six max files was copy/paste into the root of the library (C:\Users\UserName\Documents\RailClone\libs\Lamps\Street Lamps) and they are named 1.max, 2.max and so on. The thumbnails are also named 1.jpg, 2.jpg and so on.

In the library manager, I right click and choose to add a new item (a new item shows up), I right click that item and choose edit so I get into the dialogbox where you specify thumbnail and max file, name and so on. I add my thumbnail, no problem, give it a name and so on, then I click to browse for my max file, when I select it and choose open, RailClone closes down... After that I tried to copy the whole address to the max file and paste it in there, like: C:\Users\UserName\Documents\RailClone\libs\Lamps\Street Lamps\1.max and clicked OK and saved my library and try again, didn't work, I get an error of something xrefs... I also tried just to write 1.max in that textbox, same problems .

So I really don't know what I do wrong here. What shall I write in the textbox called Object? Can that be the problem?

Thanks for any help!

Regards
Stefan

Hello,

It seems a problem with the max file. Once you select 1.max, RailClone searches the RC objects included on it, but something is failing in that step.

What does the max file contain, a RailClone object or a mesh ?  Please, send us one of the files to reproduce the problem. Indicate also what RailClone and Max version do you use.

By the way, you can store all your library objects in a single max file, it's not needed to create one scene by object.

Hello

Well, I really don't know what RC object is so, yes, that might be it :)
The object (max file) I try to put in my library is a simple 3ds max scene of a street lamp made in 3ds max 2011 design x64.
I am using 3ds max 2011 design x64 and RailClone 1.03.
Here is one of the files I try to do this with, but there are 5 more different lights I want to add aswell.

Stefan

Sorry, RC is RailClone. I mean that the max file must contain a full RailClone object, not a mesh.

Anyway, i just realized the Library Editor doesn't work well from the Creation panel, it closes when the max file is selected. You must use it from the Modifier panel. Please try this:

1) Create a RailClone object using the lamp. Set all its parameters as you need (padding, slice...)
2) Save the max file to the proper library folder
3) With this same object selected, go to the Modifier panel, open the Library Editor and add the item to it.

For the next patch we will fix the detected issues:

- The Library Editor cannot be used from the Creation Panel
- Once selected the max file in the Library Editor, it must accept only RailClone items as input, not meshes or other objects.

Hi

It's not a straightforward process. After reading your message here, I finally understood how to create my own libraries.

But I think it would be better for those who haven't tried yet, if you could make a video tutorial.

Hi,

There is a tutorial for the library editor, but not a video. If we have some free time, we will make it:
